Welcome to West Shore The West Shore runs south from Tahoe City along Highway 89 through Sunnyside, Homewood, and Tahoma and on to Rubicon Bay. Much of it is tucked against the forest and the water, with state parkland nearby and far less development than you will find elsewhere on the lake.
The quiet. Mornings here are calm, the water is often glassy for paddling, and a ski lift is a short drive away. The shoreline feels like a different world even though Tahoe City is only minutes from the north end.
Life on the West Shore is unhurried and outdoors-focused. Neighbors tend to know each other, the bike path is a daily routine, and summer evenings are spent on the water. Tahoe City is the hub for groceries and services, so most errands combine into one trip.
The West Shore Cafe in Homewood and Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge are longtime favorites for lakeside dining, and Tahoe City has the widest range of restaurants and shops within a short drive.
Homewood Mountain Resort offers skiing with lake views, Sugar Pine Point State Park has trails and the historic Ehrman Mansion, and D.L. Bliss State Park is a short drive south for beaches and the Rubicon Trail. The West Shore Bike Path runs south from Tahoe City.
School boundaries vary by address. Much of the area is served by the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, including Tahoe Lake Elementary, North Tahoe Middle School, and North Tahoe High School, and I confirm the exact zoning for every property.
Sunnyside and Granlibakken sit closest to Tahoe City, followed by Homewood, Tahoma, and Rubicon Bay. Homes include lakefront properties, hillside cabins, and a few condo communities near the water and the slopes. Highway 89 is the only road along the shore, so travel can be slower in winter.
